• A family of churches

Anthem Camarillo is part a family of churches helping people find their way back to God. The Anthem family of churches is united around shared mission, vision, values, and submission to the Lordship of King Jesus. In our cities, we are working to obey Jesus in helping people find their way back to God.

Sunday Gathering Update

We are really excited to share that after a lot of waiting, prayer, discussion and counsel we will be moving forward into the Boys and Girls Club on June 6th!!!

You may notice that we are using the phrase move forward, rather than move back. That is intentional. No matter what we do, we cannot “go back to the way things were”. Our church has changed: folks have moved, new families have joined us, and we’ve created some new habits we are excited about. So we are moving forward as a church. You may remember that earlier this year we shared the vision that we were entering into a rebuilding season as a church. That is going to be important for us as we move forward into the Boys and Girls Club on June 6th.

Moving indoors will help us push our vision forward in three areas

- It will give us an opportunity to grow in stability, consistency and reliability all of which has been difficult for the past 15 months.

- It will allow us to be a visible presence in our community.

- It will allow us the ability to begin Anthem Kids where our kids can learn about Jesus with their peers together.

With these exciting opportunities, come what may feel like inconveniences or costs of the change. We are coming into the Boys and Girls Club as renters, which has required us to work with the city and club to come up with appropriate guidelines which have been submitted and approved.

We understand that within our church there are those who have been vaccinated, and those who have not or will not. We know there are those that are against masking and those that are for it. We are glad that God has brought all different types of people to call Anthem home. As we strive to be a church that honors, loves, and glorifies Jesus, one of the ways we are trying to do this is by being considerate of those who have different opinions from us.

When we consider welcoming new people into our gatherings, we want to make sure that we are a considerate room, treating others more significant than ourselves. This will not be easy, and we need the Lord’s help to eagerly maintain unity and the bond of peace.

We are excited for what the Lord has in store for us, and we hope to see you on June 6th at 10am at the Boys and Girls Club! Please read below for more details and expectations for our gatherings.

starting October 31st

Boys & Girls Club Update

We’re excited to share that the Boys and Girls Club after many years of planning and fundraising are finally able to begin construction on their expansion for the club. The Boys and Girls Club of Camarillo have been serving 100’s of kids and families for a long time now and have needed a serious face lift for quite some time. This expansion will provide a brand new teen center, bathrooms, larger hallways, and classrooms. The expansion will add approximately 6700 sq ft to their facility. This is a huge deal for them and we are really excited as this should help set them up for success to better serve Camarillo. Groundbreaking will begin at the end of October.

Not only are we excited for the Boys and Girls Club, we are excited for the opportunities that this will provide for us as we gather there on Sunday mornings. Our kids ministry has been making it work in the club, however it has been less than ideal. This expansion will make it possible for us to be able to grow our Anthem Kids Ministry. There will be fresh new bathrooms, hallways, classrooms, another larger gathering space that could potentially work for our large group story and worship times.

We are very grateful for the relationships we have built with the Boys and Girls Club and the investments we’ve made in them as we’ve rented their space for many years. And we are hopeful to see that relationship continue to grow.

Now even though we are grateful for the expansion and looking forward to the finished product, this will not be done in a microwave, and done in sixty seconds. This expansion will of course take time. Similarly, if there was work done on your home, you would have to be flexible during that time. We are going to need to take the same posture at the Boys and Girls Club during construction which is expected to take approximately 10 months to complete. Our staff and elders have been looking at the primary spaces which we will be able to occupy throughout construction and are grateful to be able to share that we will be able to offer full Anthem Kids Ministry and the adults will remain in the auditorium. This will provide an opportunity for serving as our setup will look a little different than it has in the past. It would be so helpful to have an additional 10-15 people be willing to serve on our setup team 1-2 times a month.

We are so grateful for the family that the Lord has blessed us with at Anthem Camarillo, and we understand that a construction project like this may seem daunting and perhaps even frustrating to some. We want to invite you to continue to press in further to what it means to follow Jesus together at Anthem. Let us not grow weary in doing good and let us join God in his work of growing us to be the church he’s called us to be, and would we trust that God is at work for his glory and our good as we continue to journey together to help people find their way back to God.

Abiding

Advent Devotionals

This Advent season we want to intentionally slow down and focus on abiding in Christ. A handful of folks at Anthem worked together to put together a weekly Advent Devotional that we have available in a journal format. If you didn't get a journal this past Sunday and would like to pick one up this week contact Alex Greene.

New teaching series

Abiding - John 15

The New Year is here, and we couldn’t think of a better way to start off the New Year than pressing a bit further into John 15. We know the past few years have been challenging for everyone, but we also know that God is on the move. We know that He’s working to help shape his church, to grow each of us, to be more and more like Jesus and is inviting each of us into a deeper abiding relationship with Him for His glory and our good!

So each Sunday in January we will be exploring different aspects of the abiding life found in John 15. We will look at the theology of the abiding life, the enemies of the abiding life, practices of abiding life, and the outcomes of an abiding life. Our hope isn’t simply that you would come to each of these Sundays, but that each of us would actually listen to the words of Jesus and put into practice what he says. Being a part of a community group will help a lot in this aspect. If you are not yet in a community group we invite you to jump into one, they are all open and will be a great place to connect, grow, pray, and practice the abiding life together. So join us each week starting Jan 9th as we seek to grow in abiding in Jesus together.

a letter from

The Bakers

To our dear Anthem Family,

We are so thankful to have served on the elder team for the last four years. There have been many beautiful, challenging, and special moments during our time on eldership and it has been an honor to serve Jesus and his church in this capacity. However, after much prayer and discussion, Tiffany and I made the decision to step down from eldership in November 2021 in order to slow down, spend more time with our growing boys, and to enjoy time together. Although we are no longer on the elder team, we are still very much committed to Anthem and are involved in many ways, including Community Groups, Students, Kids, etc. We’re not going anywhere! We are so thankful for our elder team—they love Jesus and you all so much. They serve humbly, faithfully, and sacrificially. And we are so thankful for you! Each of you points us to Jesus in so many ways and we can’t wait to see what the Lord does in and through his Church this year! We love you Anthem Fam! Please feel free to reach out to us if you have questions or would like to hear more about our decision. We would love to chat.

With love and gratitude,

Alex & Tiffany Baker
